What is a good water based moisterizer for African American hair?
I am tired of petroleum ingredient moisturizers. I grew up by learning that the hair needs. Research says different. I want my hair to grow. I want to try Carol’s daughter’s Hair Butter? Im skeptical because of the scent that everybody loves or complains about. I don’t know if it will work with my hair.
Hey, yeah petroleum and mineral oil is not good for our hair. I was raised thinking it would “moisturize” my scalp but I never understood as a kid why I was putting grease in my hair while my white friends were taking it out of theirs. lol. I heard it blocks pores. You can find a full list of harmful ingredients at this site- biracialhair.org. She has a full glossary. There are a lot of nasty ingredients out there, most of them in mainstream products. Carol’s Daughter is good, you have to try it for yourself though as everyone’s hair is different.
I like:
Pantene Relaxed and Natural for detangling
I’ve heard good things about:
Mixed Chicks, blended beauty, carol’s daughter, kinky coily knot today, kinky coily curling custard, jessicurl, karen body beautiful, deva care
In mainstream stores:
VO5, Pantene, creme of Nature, sauve, herbal essences.
There are great product suggestions at these sites as well

Great smelling hair products for natural African American hair?
I have kinky hair and I wash and go, only using a cream leave-in moisturizer after it is dry. I have used Mizani Rose H20 and I love the consistency, but I don’t like the smell. I also use Pantene Oil Creme Moisturizer, but they don’t sell it in my area anymore. I’m looking for a fresh, but natural smell. I typically hate the smell of most black products, but I desperately need the moisture. Help!
Have you ever tried Hemp there a nice brand… They work well coarser hair- just a thought or Alterna, Abba, GramWebb- just make sure you get these products at a salon- becasue grocery stores are not allowed to carry them- and because there probably expired or a differnt product was put in that bottle- a little scary but true..

What happens to used products, such as skin care and cosmetics, that are returned to a store or website?
Do they get repackaged and put back on the shelf? Do the employees get to take them home? Do they get sent back to the manufacturer? Are they just thrown away? I really would like to know.
I worked at bath and body works for a year, and they have a policy that you can return anything even if you’ve used it.
If the person told us they used the product or we even suspected they used it, we had to squeeze the product into the trashcan and then throw away the bottle. If it was an item that wasn’t used and came from our store, we put it back on the shelf. It it was an item that wasn’t used but wasn’t in our store, there was a prize drawer in the back that the employees could choose from if they did really well in sales, etc. I once got a $95 item that I took back to the store it was originally from and returned it for other items I actually needed. This is a little bit against the policies, but it helped me out!!
There are laws against anyone using used cosmetics. The store has to throw them out. The employess wouldn’t take home used cosmetics because that’s gross. I guess some stores send stuff back to the manufacturer, but the majority of it gets thrown out.
What are good cleanser, toner, moisturizer and facial scrub for teenage combination skin?
I’m 13 and i think i have combination skin. My skin is red around my nostrils and on my nose and i have a few spots. What is the best cleanser, toner, moisturizer and facial scrub for my skin? (nothing to expensive please)
thanks
I’m 13 also and I use Clinique 3 step process. It includes a cleanser, toner, and oil-free moisturizer. It’s really not too expensive and it last forever!! This has really helped me, it’s gentle on my skin and fights acne. Use for about 21 days and you will see lots of improvement, if your acne gets a little worse or doesn’t go away before the 21 days is up don’t loose hope. It brings out all impurities and acne under your skin, but if you’re patient your skin will improve GR8LY!!=)Hope this helps!!

questions bout clean n clear oil free dual auction moisturizer & soft day moisturizer with spf 15?
my first question is about Clean & Clear (oil-free) Dual Action Moisturizer. the reviews ive seen said it worked, but one person said it has salicylic acid in it, which can cause the skin to dry so dont put too much on.. its a moisturizer and it dries it out? how? :S
and is it good for ppl with sensitive skin?
also, is it for the face, body or both?
—————————————————————————————————–
2. does clean n clear soft day moisturizer with spf 15 good for ppl with sensitive skin and how many days does it take to get soft skin?
I started using this Dec. 20 to be exact. I wear it under my makeup. I apply it to not only my face but my neck as well. Yes it does have Salicylic Acid (acne medication) that’s why it’s called dual action. I have combination skin during the winter months. I’ve had no unwanted side effects from using this product, I’m happy with it and believe me I’m very careful with what I apply to my skin. I also have eczema (dry patches of skin that can be very itchy). It only take about a small amount, not a lot and it works. I also apply it after cleaning my face at the end of day, before going to bed. I like the way my skin feels and I will continue to use this product.
Skin care I have been eating carbs, proteins and fats. I have been having pretty much a work out diet?
but on the other hand I notice I am lacking some other stuff.
My question is: what are the best food to eat along with what I am having so I can have a cleaner skin. I don’t have many but spots do come out at times. Also with I have constantly problems with ingrowing hair, is there any diet that could help me out withall these?
thanks
Just about everything has carbs, proteins and fats, just in different proportions. Add fish oil to your diet for great skin and weight loss.
30 DAY PLAN= 30 DAY SHRED/RAW DIET+MISO SOUP/NEW HAIR CARE/ NEW SKIN CARE
I have sensitive skin from head to toe. I am looking for multiple experiences with skin cleansers, lotions, toners, exfoliants and any kind of skin care stories. What works best for you? What keeps dry skin, specifically on the face at bay? What brands do you prefer? How many times per day do you wash your face? What is your routine?
I have sensitive skin too, rosacea to be exact, so I’m wary of EVERYTHING on my skin. I did however start using natural and organic products though and I’ve noticed a huge difference- they don’t seem to dry out my skin or make it get red and itchy.
Check out www.natural-skincare-solutions.com. That’s where I buy Juice Beauty.
What at home anti ageing treatments do you swear by?
I love having little at home pampering sessions.
I hate spending loads on beauty products so i prefer to make my own stuff at home and its fun!
Do any of you know any at home anti ageing treatments. I have heard an olive oil massage is good. What else?
Many thanks in advance.
aloe vera. plant a aloe vera in your kitchen garden, it doesnt need much caring and grows well in any climate. break the stem and use the gel which starts pouring out, apply on face and neck.
Antioxidants have been proven to protect your skin against cell damage. They are actually one of the only anti-ageing ingredients that scientists believe to work and dont think are just hype.
Antioxidants – A, C & E help to protect your skin when applied as a moisturiser and help to slow down the ageing process. They can also stimulate collagen production in the skin.
For around two years now, I have been using 2 acne creams (Differin XP and Clyndoxyl Gel) and it makes my skin really dry and flaky. I have tried a few moisturizers but they’re just not helping much, after a few hours, the area around my mouth would be dry again. What moisturizers do you recommend for my dry skin (face only) ?
Any moisturiser…even cheap sorbolene….after a few hours????? It’s time to wash your face again……perhaps a little more washing, a little less acne treatment, and some moisturiser would be a good comination. I have so oily skin….I have to wash 6-8 times a day at least,,,,I’m 50 and wish I had some of your dryness.
Himalaya Herbals Intensive Face Moisturizing Lotion
Ever since I started using Murad.. about a 3 days ago, my face has been red, redder than any other part of my body. Its clearing my skin up and it doesn’t itch but my face is red! Whats up with this and how do I fix it?
I use the moisturizer, exfoliating gel and spot treatment. The moisturizer is pomegranate. It makes myskin so smooth!
You might just be having a small reaction to it. Nothing to freak out about.
Can cold cream cause damage to your dry face skin if used every day? (facial, moisturizer)?
i have very, very dry/sensitive skin and i’ve been using pond’s cold cream for the past several days which has been doing wonders but i was curious about any side effects (i.e. free-radical damage, excessive dryness afterwards, etc). i’m about to try just regular baby oil. also, i heard you can make your *own* cold cream so i plan on making some without borax/sodiumBorate. does anyone know where i can find beeswax in local retail stores? thank you.
Cold cream is perfectly safe for you. I have combo skin and experienced my first bout of severe dryness after using Noxzema. My mom gave me some of her generic cold cream. After only a few days uses, the dry skin healed, I had no breakouts, and I got compliments on my skin. I use it twice a day and go at least one day using organic high fat yougurt in the morning instead of cold cream. Be sure to gently wipe the cream off with a washcloth instead of just rinsing it.
As for making your own, it is not worth it. The simple, basic cold cream is time-tested. To make it yourself requires cost, experimentation, etc. Just go for convenience. The borate stuff is nothing to worry about.
Oh, and avoid baby oil. It’s not even good for babies.

usually people only should wash their faces twice a day, but my skin tends to get really oily in the middle of the day. i heard if you wash your face too much, your face could get more oily. i’m not worried about my skin drying because i have a good moisturizer. i wear make up in the morning (for school). however, when i get home, i don’t need it on. can i just wash my face after school? is it gonna make my face more oily? is washing the make up off my face worth doing? my face is oily enough during the day…
btw, i wash my face in the morning and night already and i use nuetrogena oil free acne wash.
someone suggested blotting. but i don’t think that’s good for your skin if you have oil and makeup on your face already… idk, what do you think?
Washing your face 3 times a day will not cause any health issues, but it can easily cause more issues with your skin.
It can dry your skin out, make your skin more oily, make it more irritated, make it more itchy, cause more breakouts, etc.
If you want to remove the makeup after you get home from school, then I suggest looking for a facial makeup remover – either in the traditional liquid/cream formulas, or in a cloth.
You could use something like Cold Cream (think Ponds brand) and rub it into your face, then rinse it with water. Then, use a microfibre cloth to really get the makeup off (I think you can buy some in places like Sephora, but I don’t know where else. Just look up microfibre clothes in your city on google).
Alternatively, you could just wash your face when you get home from school and have that as your night cleanse. Which is what I used to do when I went to school and wore face makeup. It didn’t do anything worse to my skin.
And blotting is fine for your skin. All it does is absorb the oil on a little piece of paper, which you then throw out.
Hitting on what someone up there said, your skin could be getting oilier because of how you are washing it. Is your cleanser very stripping? Meaning, does it give you that “squeaky clean”feeling? If so, switch to a gentle, all purpose cleanser. Then use other products that are designed to help with whatever specific problems you have with your skin. Also, what kind of moisturizer are you using? I have oily skin, and I find that when I DON’T moisturize, my skin gets oilier faster. Your moisturizer could actually be too greasy or thick for your skin, or might not absorb properly, which would lead to added greasiness. I suggest actually blotting around lunch time, so that your skin doesn’t feel and look as greasy throughout the later part of the day until you get home. Then, when you get home, wash your face without a cleanser if you are planning on washing it again before bed, or simply cleanse your face after removing your makeup and leave that as your night cleanse.
I also suggest switching to a gentle and basic cleanser for the morning if you are really set on using your acne cleanser. However, I have a feeling that if you stopped using that cleanser, your skin woudln’t be as oily as it is now.
Self tanner: How to apply self tanning lotion to your legs
Hi, lately I have needed to begin using some eye drops that have a very high sodium content which is really drying out the skin under my eyes. (I’m 39 and don’t yet have any signs of lines so i am very concerned about this.) I am looking for a moisturizer that is extremely sensitive and not too over the top in price.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Olay Rejuvenating eye gel. I am the same age as you and it works a lot-
I need a moisturizer for my face that won’t make me break-out/ something oil free?
Maybe something that treats acne at the same time also. Any suggestions, please?
I use Oil of Olay for Sensative Skin. The regular kind always makes me break out because it is so thick. I use the sensative formula and it is water based so it doesn’t do that. It also is very moisterizing so my face feels softer, not oily. Hope this helps.
what the best matifying moisturizer or just plain matifying veil on the market today?
Simply stated above… I’d like to know… and if you all could give me advice from experience with these products that would be awesome… Thank You!!
well 4 matifying lotion u should try clinique pore minimizing lotion it makes ur skin feel so smooth and silky and it really control the oil and it makes it easier 2 apply my makeup and 4 the powder i would suggest MAC blot powder/pressed
How often can you apply home made face masks to your face?
Some products say use once a week and other products (like md skincare alpha beta face wipes) say to use every day. I used yogurt on my face for 10 min. last night since it has lactic acid and my face is smooth and not dried out like before or flaky.
Masks like plain yogurt can be used daily. If the masks contain clay, mud, salt or any abrasive ingredient it should only be used once or twice a week depending on your skin type, because they tend to dry your face out. Ingredients like yogurt, honey or milk are moisturizing to your face and can be used more often, even daily.
I just noticed that I get pimples on my face when using a moisturizer. I cant take it back to the store because I used like half of it and its expensive one, gives good results but the only thing is that I get those pimples sometimes. Anything I can do to minimize?
Well it’s obviously clogging your pores, and it’s trapped under the skin and causes it to swell. You should try using a thinner, less oily moisturizer. I would recommend using something like the Proactive green tea moisturizer. In fact, you should start using Proactive products. It prevents and eliminates ugly pimples and leaves really clean skin!
Well good luck!
P.S.
And did you know that it is bad if you wash your face too much? It can get too dry, causing the oil glands to produce more sebum, making your face look covered with a tone of oil.
does anyone have any homemade recipes they used for lip moisturizers that work really good??? thanx..
I have a good treatment you can do at home: take some olive oil or vegetable oil, just a little, and mix in some sugar. don’t let it dissolve all the way, make it a lumpy mixture. Then take a q-tip, get some oil and sugar on it and rub it on you lips. Massage it in for a bit, this will exfolliate and moisten your lips. Then put on a moisturizer you like or just some petroleum jelly (or a homemade one someone recommends here) and it will really absorb.

And how much does it cost? Are any of the cheaper ones any good?
If you are looking for a cheaper one I would recommend Olay Total Effects. But if you have more budget, I would really recommend Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream, it works great. You can check out the source for more information and my reviews.
If you are like me and love to spend hours outdoors in the sun, then you too have an equal chance of developing the problem of hyperpigmentation. Yes, there are some chemical creams and lotions available to combat this. But don’t you want to know what is the best treatment for hyperpigmentation?
To really appreciate the reason why the treatment that I am going to recommend is best, you need to first understand what causes hyperpigmentation.
As is evident from the name, hyperpigmentation is made up of two words – hyper and pigmentation i.e. excess of pigmentation.
This pigment present in the skin is known as Melanin and is responsible for providing the color to the skin. Excess production of this pigment is what starts depositing it in the upper layer of the skin, taking the form of unevenly pigmented skin.
Melanin production is also stimulated by external factors like the harmful UV radiations coming from the sun. So, the hours that you spend outdoors harm your skin and add largely to the problem.
The best treatment for hyperpigmentation would be one meeting the two basic requirements:
- It should be able to reduce the existing melanin content in the skin.
- It should be able to prevent the further excess generation of melanin in the skin.
These two requirements are exactly met by a natural skin care cream containing Extrapone Nutgrass Root and Phytessence Wakame.
Extrapone is a grass root from India which inhibits the production of melanin in the skin and also reduces it by up to 40%
Phytessence is a sea kelp from Japan which forms a protective layer around the skin and protects it from the direct UV rays. It thus, avoids the condition where UV rays stimulate the melanin production.
Other reasons why these natural creams are the best treatment for hyperpigmentation is the fact that they are safe and absolutely free from side effects. Unlike chemical laden creams or chemical treatments which have a bunch of side effects, they cause no harm to you.
Moreover, these creams have other additional natural ingredients which help in preventing other related skin problems like age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin etc.
So, it is like using a single cream can treat hyperpigmentation and additionally enhance the general health of the skin too. Doesn’t this make it the best treatment for hyperpigmentation?
You can try this for yourself. Visit my website below for more information on one such natural and proven skin cream. I bet, once you start using it, you will simply fall in love with your skin.
