Are department store skin care products really better than grocery store?
I am starting a skin care routine and was wondering if I really need to shell out the money for brands such as Lancome, Clinique and Origins, or if Oil of Olay will provide me with the same results. I am looking for products that help even skin tone and give you a “glow”, and also for under eye circles and nipping eye wrinkles in the bud. I am 22 and have normal skin. Thanks!!
id say no, just more expensive

Top 10 Power Trios
Rhythm guitar? We don’t need no stinkin’ rhythm guitar! 10. ZZ Top The classic cars, the sunglasses, the beards, ZZ Top wasn’t just a band, they were a way of life cooler than the life you will ever know. The music – sweaty Tex-Mex rock – isn’t bad either. Review: Olay Age Defying Intensive night cream
Ok I admit it, I don’t take very good care of my face. I wash it with makeup wipes and go to bed, apply a bit of moisturizer and then slap on some more makeup. Sometimes I will wash it with Clean & Clear face wash. I know I should probably be using a nice serum to make my skin look and feel healthier and to combat age (I’m only 23 now but I want to get a jump on wrinkles and age signs!)
What do you recommend as a good regimen for facial skin care. What products do you think work? I am Caucasian with fair skin. It’s not really very oily but tends to get dry in the summer heat. I still break out a bit every once in a while and my biggest complaint is dark under eye circles. Any ideas on what I should buy? What do you like to use?
skip the serum for now, it’s a bit too early to start it.
i like using Dove for Sensitive Skin Cleanser – it’s gentle, effective and won’t dry your skin out
I love Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer with spf. It evens out skin tone and protects too. I also like Olay Complete with SPF.
I started using a basic night cream around 23 too (no need to use anti-wrinkle stuff yet, but the added moisture is great for the skin). try Dove, or Nivea.
exfoliate regularly with a gentle exfoliator (something with microbeads or a homemade mix of sugar or baking soda with your cleanser works great).
i’m not sure about eye creams. i don’t have dark circles, but I like Clinique All About Eyes Rich.
The key at this stage in your skin care is to protect it from the Sun and environmental damage, and moisturize to prevent loss of elasticity.
I’m tired of all these facial masks, scrubs, products- WHAT WORKS!? (10 points!)?
Okay, I used to have perfect skin. and I’m one of those people who acne looks absolutely strikingly awful on- I only feel pretty with flawless skin, I feel I have enough other flaws. I have sensitive skin too, it seems very prone to rashes and such since I’ve started using makeup (don’t say to stop, because I wont.)
Can you please tell me a facial moisturizer or a GOOD facial that is *homemade* and will not irritate my sensitive, currently splotchy and a little bumpy skin? Please? I’m desperate. I used baking soda and water and it felt like my face was burning when I took it off! Tea bags dried out my eyes-I have to deal with horrible wrinkles right under them. I tried apple cider vinegar- smells revolting. Should I just take a little break from products all together?
By the way, I was very happy when I recently purchased the Neutrogena grapefruit acne cleanser. It didn’t do ANYTHING about my few pimples, redness and bumps from waxing. PLEASE help, something simple even?
even though you said don’t say to stop wearing makeup, i’m gonna go ahead and say it anyway, but hear me out first…
use Boots Botanics skincare range… if you live out of the uk im sure you can order it in. use their sensitive skin soothing cleansing lotion, followed by their skin brightening toner. once you’ve let the toner fully soak in, use Botanics sensitive oil free moisturizer. i started using these products about a month ago, because i had quite uneven, blotchy skin but didn’t like covering it all up with make up. you may have to wait a couple of weeks before you notice a real difference, which admittedly means two or three weeks without wearing facial makeup, but it’ll be worth it. i don’t wear foundation or powder or anything anymore, just because i don’t need to. foundation just forms a barrier across your skin and stops clean air from reaching it, and just helps build up bacteria. in the long run, your skin will look much better if you don’t have to rely on makeup
and if you have irritated skin on your face or any spots, i strongly recommened sudo cream. you can usually find it down the baby aisle in drugstores, but its absolutely brilliant as an antiseptic healing cream, and really helps to calm red and inflamed areas, although i would advise using it only at night, because it doesn’t rub in brilliantly.
so sorry if thats all completely useless because im advising you not to wear makeup, but if you absolutely feel that you must, at least whilst your waiting for the Botanics stuff to take effect, try using a light, soft mineral foundation or powder, so your skin won’t be as weighed under hope this helps

My hair always seems to get really dry throughout the day. About a half hour after my daily shower, my hair usually starts getting dry. I don’t know the best way to properly care for my hair, so could any of you help me? Also, I have a few questions…
*How often should I use conditioner?
*How often should I shower?

*How can I prevent split ends?
*What’s the best way to keep your hair moisturized throughout the day?
I don’t know this helps, but my hair is pretty short (about 2 inches).

Jergens Natural Glow Daily facial moisturizer product review on Mens Skin Care with Ross
looking for a good water based moisturizer w/hyaluronic acid?
soo…i ran out of the usual product i use but want to try something new. anyone know of any good water based moisturizers that have hyaluronic acid in them?.. i dont want something that has a million ingredients..just looking for a healthy product for my skin!..thanks a bunch.
I recommend what I use; Preve extreme anti aging by Isabella Pelle. It’s made specifically for fine lines/wrinkles. It has the highest concentration of “peptides” active ingredients to fight them. Also has the highest concentration of the best known moisturizer, hyaluronic acid. This has kept my skin baby smooth. http://www.isabellapelle.com/antiagingcream.html
Last month they came out with a more concentrated version of Preve called Cura. It’s everything Preve except they concentrated it to extreme. I got it 2 weeks ago; it’s excellent. What you need to do is decide which one is best for you. I recommend both.
Ok im 13 years old and i have very oily skin i also have black heads all over my nose. my friend told me to steam my face and then use Tweezerman LTD Skin Care Tool. so im going to try that but does anyone know a good cream or something for oily skin or blackheads i used noxzema and clean and clear and that crap doesn’t work
This should help. Rub oatmeal paste on face, leave it to dry for 15 minutes and scrub well before washing off with cold water. Check out http://useinfo-blackhead.blogspot.com/ for more useful tips to control blackheads. For more details on oily skin log on to http://useinfo-oilyskin.blogspot.com/
Men typically don’t use any sort of skin care products on a daily basis unless they are either coaxed by their significant others or live what people call a “metrosexual” life, being really in touch with the things that many women use as methods to look more fresh and younger. However, with men becoming aware of the various affects of aging that show up on their faces as they grow older, they are becoming more in tune with skin care products, more exact, anti aging products. An eye cream is a popular first anti aging product among men.
But the question I pose today – do they work? The answer is a resounding yes.
Men have found success with anti aging creams just like women have. Most men realize that many signs of aging start appearing around age 30. The common signs of aging are listed below:
*dark circles under and around the eyes
*eye wrinkles and crows feet
*loss of plumpness of skin directly under the eyes
*puffy eyes and eye bags
These can all be treated with an eye cream or eye serum. These are powerful blends of peptide ingredients geared to fight those nasty signs of aging on contact, and in some of the best eye creams, continue to treat them therapeutically as time goes on.
Eye creams are available readily in many different types and forms. The most basic forms are available in general stores such as the local pharmacy, and the most advanced formulas are available online and in the upper tier of retailers such as a large department store. The difference in price is normally due to the ingredient mix. Some ingredients, such as the ones found in the best eye creams, are imported from laboratories overseas, and can come with a hefty price tag. However, these specially formulated products work wonders on the skin under and around the eyes. Some of the more potent ingredients are listed below.
*Haloxyl. Gets rid of dark circles under the eyes
*Argirelene. Works similar to botox as it relaxes the facial muscles, all in a cream-based solution.
*Resveratrol. A great antioxidant source, this fights free radicals.
There are many, many more ingredients out there that work well together and on their own. Men, just like women, are turning to these daily use eye creams as they really can make them look much younger. In a quick-to-judge society, it’s important for men to arrive to work looking their best. Many people associate dark circles with partying and late nights. Perceptions can be made and judgments can be made as well. It’s important for men to look their best, and they have been using an eye cream to treat just this issue.
So, to answer the question I posed – Do eye creams work for men? Yes, and most men over the age of thirty are starting to realize this and take advantage of these anti aging skin care wonder creams.
What Is Your Favorite Moisturizer? Oily Faced People Only!?
There are sooo, many and Im having trouble deciding! Im considering Ambi even&clear w/ SPF 30 or an Aveen one. HELP! I have Oily skin, but I feel that moisturizer is VITAl to balcance the oil. Also good for makeup application
THANKS!
Ambi is great, go with that because its oil free and it evens skintone! I just started today and no oil…well their was a tiny bit in the t-zone and I used my tea tree blot sheet. but 8 hours and minI’mum oil…plus im protected from the sun when outside..it doesn’t get any better! simple, affordable, quality.
Skincare for Combination & Oily Skin : How to Moisturize Oily Facial Skin
I’m going as a zombie David Bowie groupie of sorts but I want to know how long I can leave the greenish makeup on until it breaks me out….
Also, is there anything I can do to make it safe for my skin? If I wear a lot of moisturizer or regular foundation under it, can I keep it on for the entire school day?
It really depends on how sensitive you are to the makeup you’re using. You can do a spot test to see. You could also make your own out of crisco and food coloring, set with cornstarch. That’s a lot gentler than, say, grease paint, but it’ll still clog your pores. When you wash it off, you may want to exfoliate, and use a toner, too, and moisturize before and after.
I’m 14 and I use Neutrogena’s Visibly Even spf 30 moisturizer. My night cream was making me break out so now I want to go and buy a new one. Many night creams are too oily or too expensive, and I can only buy what’s sold in drugstores. I read good reviews about Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream. Can I use it or will there be bad effects on my skin years from now? Or what would you recommend?
i don’t think its necessary. im 19 and i don’t use them. the only thing you can possibly need is a good facial moisturizer with SUNSCREEN so u can protect ur skin from harmful sun rays and so your skin can look beautiful and youthful for many years to come.=]
dont waste your money on those things. u dont need them u r 14=]
Anti-Aging Skincare & The Truth Behind Moisturizers
Has anyone used Origins skine care line for acne? If so, does it work? I’m using skinID right now and it works on existing acne but does not prevent acne. I’ve read great reviews on Origins and Clinique. Which one works better??
I’m leaning more towards Origins since its more natural. Does Origins prevent breakouts?
I worked for both Origins and Clinique, and I can tell you I LOVE everything I have used of Origins! Clinique was a bit too harsh, and I can’t use their moisturizer, it was counter productive because it made my sensitive skin break out even more, so the acne stuff was a moot point. I am a line jumper though! I will use some stuff from one line and some from another. I don’t like all the steps you have to take with Clinique (make-up remover, soap or cleanser, toner, treatment, moisture).
The good thing about both those lines is you can get samples, if they don’t have them ready made, they will (or should) make them for you.
I can tell you that I have never been disappointed with any Origins product, and I have used almost the whole line in both products.
Good Luck, and get some samples before you decide!
What’s the best moisturizer for someone who has a combination of dry and oily skin?
I have done a little research and it looks like Eucerin, Cetaphil, and clinique dramatically different moisturizer have some pretty good reviews. Are those any good? I have never used moisturizer before so I’m a first timer.
The oily part is probaly you’re T-zone and the dry is probaly the rest (the T-zone is forhead nose and some times chin) I would use Mattifying Moisturiser on your T-zone and either Nourishing Moisturiser or Rejuvenating Moisturiser on your dry skin that should sort your problem out

Where can I buy the Merlot Grape Seed Moisturizer?
I’ve seen many good reviews about this moisturizer and am interested in purchasing it. However, I live in Canada and have no idea where I can buy it. Does anyone know? And I’d prefer not to buy it online. Thanks!
They sale this at Walgreens but do not know if they is a Walgreens where you live at. also too do not know if they keep saleing this item becouse they have this in a clearance price for $4.00 one time.
To care for your skin: Cleanse twice daily with a gentle, non-soap cleanser and use a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and non-comedogenic. Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day.
Can someone help me find these products? They need to be available at CVS. I have normal/sensitve skin. I also want these products to be water-based(no oil). Thank you!
Cetaphil (it has a whole line of products that are hypoallergenic, fragrance free and non-comedogenic that are reasonably priced)
it’s awesome because it’s light and doesnt feel oily and disgusting. i always get complimented on my skin now after i’ve been using these products for a while
would yoou add or subract from my this daily routine..??
ok i would like advice from people who have good skin…. this is my usual routine
i wake up wash my face with clinique face wash cream and put on moisturizer by clinique then i put on foundation by loreal truematch
i use clinique or chanel blush.
then i use loreol or maybeline eyeshadow with relvlon liquid eyeliner with maybeline mascara. i am done with little bit of loreol lipgloss.
at night i take off my makeup with clinique face wash and then i recently started putting on olay night cream.
I SOMETIME EXFOLIATE WITH MASK FROM RITE AID. I AM looking to solve the problem about my nose have these white spots i try taking them out with strips and mostly do but after 2 days the pores fill up again what can i do?? I WOULD LIKE UR OPINION ABOUT MY DAILY ROUTINE WHAT WOULD U ADVICE ME?
I wash morning and night with plain water, Use light amount eyeshadow, mascara and liner. Use Olay with sunscreen everyday. Perhaps the pores are just large on your nose. Using cool water to wash after warm water wash., may help close pores.
I have normal- combination skin (dry in some areas and oily in t- zone and some other areas) and I was wondering if this is a good skin care routine?
Morning: tinted moisturizer (i don’t use foundation because I don’t really need it yet)
Every other morning I use Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily cleansing Pads (before tinted moisturizer)
Night:
I use Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash (Also is a wash the same thing as a cleanser?)
I then use St.Ives apricot scrub (the medicated one) I really like this product but I don’t know if I should use it everyday, and if it should go after the wash?)
Then I use any random Moisturizer that I find
That’s my skin care routine and is it a good one for my skin type. Also should I use toner, if so which one, and where in my regimen should I use it and how often? Also, if any of you have any recommendations and mini reviews, they are greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
I think it would be better for you to use a mild cleanser, such as Avene soapless gel cleanser or Johnsons ph balanced face wash, then apply your tinted moisturiser.
in the evening, cleanser is often not enough to remove all makeup/oil/surface dirt. Use a baby wipe (won’t irritate skin) or a makeup remover then wash again with the mild cleanser. make sure the moisturiser you use is good quality, and stick to the same one for a while to see if it works. Eucerin hydro balance light, Vichy moistuirsers and Olay moisturisers are all good.
use your exfoliator in place of your cleanser 2-3 times per week.
face wash is the same thing as cleanser. don’t use toner, it itsn’t necessary for young skin and any acne should be treated by a doctor. remember to also eat healthily, try and eliminate or at least reduce the amount of junk food you eat, exercise and drink lots of water. what you put into your body shows on the outside.
if have a few pimples here and there, but im 11 years old so what r good products to keep my face vibrant, acne free, and fesh looking.
if you are 11 years old, you should not be using too many skin care products already as your skin is still very fresh and young. Drink lots of fruit juices and lots of water ( best natural cleanser for your body!), especially if it’s hot outside. cleanse your face and neck in the morning and at night with a light facial wash which is soap free, try brands like Cetaphil Gentle Daily Cleanser or Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser if you wear makeup. If you sweat a lot during the daytime, it is probably a good idea to cleanse during the day too. After you cleanse your face, you can apply a little, light facial moisturiser, if you need any , or only to the areas of your face that are dry.
In general, try to eat healthy, get enough rest and exercise and try to maintain a positive attitude. Remember you might be going through puberty now and breakouts at this time are very normal, so don’t fuss to much. Just let your body do it’s thing and the stage will pass eventually. Enjoy your life!
My nose peels a lot. Its really annoying because its noticeable. Its mostly the sides and the tip of my nose and not really the bridge. Im really bad with moisturizers (that is, i always forget to put them on) but i have a lot of them. Im worried that the moisturizers would clog the pours on my nose, and i seem to get a lot of zits there. I have 4 moisturizers: (1) CUREL extreme care 24 hrs intense – (2)WELLSKIN BASE GLAXAL hypoallergenic, perfume free, lanolin free, non-greasy. – (3) LIFE body lotion tropical pomegranate- (4) GARNIER NUTRITIONIST. The GARNIER i use on my neck, the LIFE is crap, really cheap so i dont use it at all, the GLAXAL i use on my face mostly before i go to bed or put on my makeup and the CUREL i use on the rest of my body. Should i be using a face moisterizer or shea butter or something? (im 13 by the way)
Any kind of non-greasy lotion is perfect for your face. Do not use shea butter…it is really greasy.
My absolute favorite is Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion.
Keep in mind too, using a non-greasy moisturizer all over your face can actually help with acne. You are keeping your skin moist which allows your skin to produce less oil…thus, causing less pore blockage and less acne. :]
Does using olive oil as a moisturizer cause pimples?
And if it does, is there any way to add other oils to it or use it another way that will make pimples disappear?
I have never seen olive oil used as a facial moisturizer or even as an ingredient in one, just for the skin& body. even those are meant for some heavy duty moisturization. therefor, if you are having issues with breakouts, i would not recommend using olive oil on your face.
The only oil I can think of right this second for break outs is tea tree oil. But really, just go buy a moisturizer that’s made for oily/combination/acne prone skin. The olive oil certainly wont make your acne disappear.
I tried it at sephora lol, is it just me or does it feel really good? does it work well for you? what are your experiences with it! haha, im getting it for my b-day, so yeah
Yes! I’ve had it for two days and my skin is already clear! But if you want to get rid of acne w/ it use cetaphil facial wash
ok so usually i wash my face at night, and apply a toner.
but my face is very dry since its getting colder out, so i want to start apply moisturizer too.
when should i befor the toner or after or what..?
how long should i wait .. etc.
thanks!
moisturizer after the toner, toners pull oil out of your face . you can use the moisturizer right after the toner.
How to Apply Evening Makeup : Applying Moisturizer for Evening Makeup
can i use origins zero oil instant matte finish as a moisturizer?
well of course you could use neutrogenabut it only lasts a few hours, the best way to cure an oily face is to wash your face with bar soap OR you could get a hot wet towel, and put it on your face for 5-10 minutes 3 times a day.
One does not use aftershave for glaze of skin or attractive flavor; there are other products like creams, moisturizers, and colognes for such purpose. The main use of an aftershave lotion or gel is in its capability to soften and smoothen the skin. Therefore, a highly scented aftershave lotion or gel may not be preferable at all.
The use
Aftershave conforms to its literal meaning, something to be used after a shave, a soothing balm to use after a shave. The skin on various parts of our body, especially the face is very sensitive and irritation, dryness and infection are the consequential offshoots of regular shaving. In addition there may be small injuries like cuts and scratches that need to be taken care of after shaving.
Types
Ordinarily, three types of aftershaves are typically used. First, there is the aftershave lotion which is good but may sting and may not be suitable to all types of skins. Secondly, the balm, that soothes irritating skin. The third and last one is Gel that not only soothes the irritating skin but also can relieve or prevent razor burns. A comparison between a lotion, a balm, and a Gel tilts the balance decisively in favor of Gel.
Choose what suits you best
Different people have different choices and therefore they will purchase different types of aftershaves. Some will go by the looks and others by the smell. But the ultimate choice always rests with the end user who has to decide what is best for him.
