How to rescue hair that has been texturized due to overconditioning?
Hair won’t curl, is dry/brittle, lots of breakage, I can barely run my fingers through it without having hair all over my hands. I use olive oil as a moisturizer, Garnier Fructis Moisture works 2-in-1/Moisture Works conditioner. I’ve tried everything at this point, and I just don’t know what else to do. I’ve deep conditioned, I’ve done the Pantene Relaxed and Natural thing, I’ve braided, I’ve weaved, I’ve let it be, I’ve permed, I’ve pressed, and no matter what I do, there always seems to be this huge breakage/dryness problem. Is there any way I can improve this without spending hundreds of dollars at salons or hours and hours on hair care?
Currently i have long hair and have been learning alot so…
i do not have a relaxer i stopped getting them 5 years ago ( and i’ve only have 3 relaxers in my life time so this is all natural) so i can show you how to have straight hair that is still natural
1. The shampoo, unfortunately many black women are using shampoos with alcohol and petroleum jelly(the first or one the the first ingredients in Pantene relaxed and natural). step away from them. Use Aveda’s shampoo.. specifically the name is Brilliant…go to the website. I use it, i love it, it mouisterizes my hair and the products are natural. i have also heard that KeraCare is good.
2. Okay, step two condition it and then it is time to comb it out, Do not use a brush on you hair when it is wet,,it will hate you for it then break off in revenge. Put your hair in small sections then comb with large toothed comb and blow dry.
3. Do a hot oil treatment atleast once a month before you wash your hair with extra virgin olive oil…repeat..EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil..not the regular stuff. unfortunately i have yet to take this step however my hair is doing great.
4. Okay on the daily basis you need to pay close attention to your hair…i recommend conditioning your scalp(atleast 3-4 times a week) it and your ends(everyday) so that they will not get dry and unhealthy .Petroleum jellly and mineral oil (combined to form grease a nuclear weapon )are weapons of mass destruction,,it does so much harm to your hair it cannot be all explained here. So you ask what do I use…well natural oils jojoba oi, extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, emu oil, coconut oil…all these natural oils and more love you..i promise. I also use Aveda’s Brilliant(the name of the brand) emollient for my ends.
5. Next,,if you want your hair straight but still be natural it is time to get a freakin good flat iron.,i have the Chi..it does the job but I recommend getting the Sedu because of the good reviews. make sure to protect your hair..i have so thermal protector from Aveda.
6. If you have a relaxer ( i have heard that Mizani and Affirm are the best relaxers) don’t continue to relaxer all your hair everytime you go to the salon..just the new growth and try to stretch relaxers as long as possible.
7. You do not need to trim your hair everytime you go to the salon maybe every 3 to 6 months.
8. Wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf to prevent damage before going to bed.
9. Eat healthy, drink lots of water,
10 take multivitamins, and fish oil pills you can get from GNC.
Follow these steps and life will be good..the best part about flat iron (which i do once a week or every two weeks not everday since it will kill your hair) is that it is not stringy but thick and healthy, yet straight and light enough to blow in the wind.
Hi, usually I use Loreal Men expert products, the exfoliating scrub, another loreal wash, then a loreal anti-fatigue moisturiser. I usually just wash once in the morning and not normally at night but my skin is a lot better since I’ve been using these products. Still I was wondering if there’s anything I could use to improve my skin even more and make it more soft? I am young so I am not really thinking about using anti age creams.
Maybe you could use a serum as well. It is a moisturizing products that can be applied before the moisturizing cream in order to penetrate the lower layers of skin (hypo dermis).
I don’t know any good brand for this but I’m sure you’ll get help if you go to the appropriate store.
I have narrowed down the best name-brand moisturizers.
Vaseline
Eucerin
Cetaphil
Baby Oil
Cold Creams(Ponds, Oil of Olay)
Emollients like Vaseline and baby oil are excellent skin “barriers” to lock in moisture—-but they do not really moisturize. Cetaphil is a good cleaner and emollient. Eucerin does a good job too. But these products dont absorb very well into the skin.
But I find that cold creams such as Ponds Cold Cream and Oil of Olay works the best because it absorbs into the skin. Why do cold creams like Ponds and Oil of Olay work better than vaseline and baby oil? Ponds and Oil of Olay still have still have a petrolatum base.
When I apply vaseline or baby oil…i can still see my wrinkles except my face is shiny. But when I apply Ponds Cold Cream or Oil of Olay…..my wrinkles vanish! How come? Whats in cold creams that make them work better than just “base” products?
Also, whats your best moisturizer for beautiful skin?
Curious. Serious answers only.
neutrogena moisture, oil free, for sensitive skin
its very good because it doesnt leave shine on ur face
and ur shouldnt have a reaction to it
it absorbs pretty fast and leaves your skin smooth all day
just apply it before you leave the house in the morning
and u dun even have to use thaat much
maybe a pea size
i dislike olay because of the oil in it
Hormone Replacement – Hype, Fact, and Choosing Right for Your Lifespan

I use salicylic and glycolic acid plus benzoyl peroxide at night so my skin is dry especially now in the winter but i don’t want to have a greasy face in the daytime nor do i want tight skin.
I’ve been using a similar skin care routine and I moisturize with jojoba oil at night.
Jojoba oil is supposed to not clog your pores because it’s not really an oil, but a liquid wax. However, I’ve personally found that your mileage may vary, based on climate, pollution, and personal skin chemistry. It can be a little greasy, but if you use it sparingly, it does soak in after about 10-15 minutes.
I apply it on damp, but not too wet skin, right after showering or washing my face. Sometimes I mist my face with a rose water / glycerin toner I found at a health food store, before applying about 4-5 drops of jojoba oil (for my whole face).
You can make your own glycerin toner for cheap. Buy plain glycerin at the drugstore, and dilute it to 4-5 parts water, 1 part glycerin. Put it in a spray bottle and mist it on before applying the oil, or whatever moisturizer you choose. The glycerin draws water from the air, depositing it on the surface of your skin.
Give it a try, and stick with it for a couple of weeks, since it might make you break out a tiny bit for the first week. If it continues to break you out, then maybe your climate is too dry or humid, or the pollution in your town is too strong. Or maybe your face hates you.
P.S. I don’t recommend trying other oils, like olive oil or baby oil.
((EDIT: I just read the reply under mine, and I don’t know about hemp oil, but it also might be worth a try. The acne products are removing your natural oils, which are your skins only defense. You have to replace those oils with something that the P. Acnes bacteria doesn’t want to eat, and which does not harden in your pores.)
P.P.S. You might want to think about dropping benzoyl peroxide from your routine, unless it’s only spot treatment. At least think about cutting back, or just using it every other day.

I am particularly interested in ideas for face and body. Would like to hear about foods, creams etc.,
hmmmm it’s not exactly a secret but I’ll tell you anyway… I love seabuckthorn oil. It got some amazing medicinal and healing properties for skin damage. And my skin is looking and feeling the healthiest it has for along time. I put it on overnight 1 or 2 times a week & can see instant improvements in the morning…….. which is pretty much unique amongst all those useless greasy expensive anti-ageing creams out there!

MEDICALLY SPEAKING: Arthritis not just a disease of the aged
As we age, we tend to think more about the maladies that seem to come with the years. One disease that’s been associated with aging is arthritis, the painful swelling and stiffening of joints. But for as many as 400 out of every 100,000 children, arthritis is a current reality, not a vague possibility decades away. The Secret History of anti-aging medicine
I’m sixteen. I’ve been using a lot of products on my skin. I know bad. But I cut down the products and I have used Proactiv. It worked wonders for me, but I don’t want to use it everyday because it drys my skin a lot. So I am using Aveeno products such as the skin brightening daily scrub and the aveeno moisturizer is 30 spf. I also use the Cover girl Mineral powder.
But my face, it’s colorless and it’s just blah. My skin tone looks grayish and pale. I am healthy and I am a natural light healthy brown skin toned and now my face looks gray and it’s dry. Could it be due to the products I used to put. I’m scared. Why is my skin grayish and it looks dull? I want what I used to have, amazing skin color.
The skin brightening scrub does not lighten or brighten skin color but makes face radiant and glow. It’s just a scrub.
this is REALLY serious.i think it’s a liver problem. do u take pain killers with ecitaminafin(i have no idea how to spell this word sorry but its pronounced ahseetomeenafin) or something? Go to the doctor b/c whatever shows up on ur skin shows that there’s an internal problem, even with acne. there’s usually a deeper meaning to why we have skin problems
I’m 19years old. I know I shouldn’t worry about it. But I was actually wandering what things SPEED UP aging to your physical appearance(body, face, etc) So I can avoid it.
now what things help you look younger. I heard drinking green tea(even if it’s lipton) helps as well? what helps? what doesnt?
I agree with a lot of the other comments. Some basic things you should do that will help slow aging are: don’t stress too much, exercise often, get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water. Don’t smoke and don’t drink. This does affect skin condition later.
But truthfully there are so many factors that contribute to aging such as genes and your environment (smoggy, tropical, etc). However, there is an abundance of information and new products available. It’s just a matter of sorting through them.
One of the best preventative measure is to use sunscreen. Sun damage is the leading cause of premature wrinkling. I would suggest an antioxidant in your skin care routine to take care of free radicals. Free radicals affect collagen structure and lead to sagging skin.
Oh! And some people don’t realize how much better results can be when skin care products are applied correctly. It makes a huge difference in efficacy. Read this for important tips: http://skin-care-therapy.blogspot.com/2009/06/correct-application-of-skin-care.html.
Lastly, it is often it is a matter of trial and error. Every skin care product will work differently for each person. There is plenty of ingredients to choose from. Here is a site with lots of information about both commonly used ingredients and newly discovered ingredients: http://www.honestskincarereviews.com.
I hope this barrage of information helps!

have you tried Avon skin care products? What did you use and did it work?
I just bought the body contouring lotion. The reviews on the website were good, but I’m wondering how good it really works. I’ve lost 50 pounds in two weeks. (preg. weight and breast feeding) I’m sagging! I hope this product works. What products have you tried and did you like what they did?
I can only speak about ‘Wild Country’ by Avon. My husband purchased it decades ago. He was not able to put it down because the fragrance remained outstanding. I personally love its aroma. The compliments have never stopped coming. Peace!
I am 19 years old and I wanted to purchase the Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing Serum. Not for the aging but because I have some marks from zits and blemishes and from reviews I read this helps a lot. But would it also make an effect if I started using this anti aging product now for my skin when I’m older? Or will it cause problems somehow?
if is natural is less harsh than chemical based creams their serum are really lightweight not heavy that cannot harm your skin in long term .also you’re at the right age to take care of your skin so your skin would look more youthful later.but try to use lightweight anti aging creams not thick or heavy so you don’t breakout.
Pros — I’m a little over 5 foot; deep blue eyes that change to bright blue, blue green, murky green, and bright green; light brown hair with a touch of aburn, just past my armpit but about to be cut to my shoulders (in a punk-ish style); high cheek bones; fair peaches & cream skin colour.
Cons — I have A LOT OF BODY FAT for a 12 year old; i’m a size 12 to 13 in pants, medium to large in shirts; ZITS; 120 lbs; thick legs; size 36A in bra (even though i stgarted when I was 9, and im almost 13!)
I have so-called “curves”, but i think im shapes like a giant pear when it comes to hips and bust comparison. in full body though, i look like a ruler with dents in the sides
plus, my second toes longer than my big toe!!
oh come on! Im eleven and Im skinny but I have size 12 in pants and size medium in shirts. You sound normal! And ive always wanted blue eyes…and I wish I has anything larger than my 34AAA! You are so lucky…and who cares about your toe? its not like someone is going to come up to you and go like “Your ugly cuz ur toe is wierd!”

My poor boyfriend has extremely dry skin on his face to the point where his nose actually flakes. If you lightly run your fingernail across his cheek his skin just flakes off. What is the best over the counter moisturizer for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
My husband has the same problem. We found 2 things that helped. First Origins (a store in our local mall) has the face cream made out of mushrooms that if used before bed nightly clears up the problem (but its $60 for a very small jar). The other thing is Desonide which is a lotion that a dermatologist prescribed for him. He has to use it much less often, it works faster, and we save money in the long run.
So I’d recommend having him go to the dermatologist, but if he can’t for some reason check out the mushroom cream at Origins.
i am 23 years old and before i never cared about my skin like i would go to bed without taking off my makeup. I want my hair to be softer with out using products like S curl and stuff like that. But if there are Shampoos, conditioner, moisturizers, oils or grease, please let me know. Also my skin tone is a brown color, but on different parts of my body the color is different, like lighter or darker. What can i do with out tanning, to get a even Skin tone?
Okay first of all I want to say that I don’t advocate changing kinks into curls. Your texture is great. It grows up into the sky to be closer to God. Loose curls are not synonmous with soft hair. As long as you condition your hair it will feel soft. BUT if you want more hang to the hair occasionally:

I have really dark purple dark circles right now. I am currently using the MAC moiturecover concealer but now that I am pregnant it doesnt give me any coverage. My dark circles are really bad and well since I dont wear foundation I dont have anything setting it. I only wear tinted moisturizer. I dont like the heavyness of foundation and I take great pride in my skin so I dont really like covering it up so I just like minimal coverage. I tried bare minerals but it dried my dry skin even more. So I basically need something that is creamy, doesnt set on lines, has good moisture, and gives super coverage. I went to sephora and the gal tried on about 5 concealers and none really worked.
I am currently eyeing the Laura Mercier concealer kit, Neutrogena 3 in 1 concealer kit, or Bobbi Brown concealer.
I have used erase paste and I liked the texture and coverage but it has some retinol in it (
thank you
Oh yeah in my MAC concealer I am a NW25
have you tried different MAC concealers? They have a good selection. I use the studio stick concealer. You can try that one or studio sculpt concealer. Remember you can always return products from MAC if you are not satisfied with them. You don’t need a foundation to set anything, you can try the HD high definition powder to set your concealer and it is a translucent powder any color can use because it doesn’t alter the makeup you already wear. so you can try it just for the concealer.
would taking testosterone blend at 6mils aweek , affect my teeth from moving with braces?
im about to start using steroids again for the 2nd time in my life but also about to orthodontics fixed next month, ive recently posted this question up about 4 times, but still yet to receive a good answer to the question i ask,im taking steroids for bodybuilding purposes not prescribed purely legal by the way,not breaking no laws, im 20 years of age an i know about safe use and abuse, its just moderate doses of testosterone can build up skeletal protein thus harding bones, obviously this is not what i want having braces (don’t want them any longer then i have to) hope to get a good Professional answer this time and not anti steroid campaigners cuz i couldn’t give a toss about those comments you don’t know what ur talking about : ) cheers gary uk
