Acne at 30?

I can’t believe I am getting acne on my back and shoulders. I’m not a teenager, I’m pushing 30. I didn’t have acne problems when I was in my teens, but now I’ve started breaking out on my shoulders, upper back, neck and on my face as well. I shower every day and I’ve tried changing my shampoo and conditioner, washing my back after I’ve rinsed my hair, Neutrogena body wash, and I wear my hair up all the time. I’ve also tried rubbing alcohol, which kinda helped a little, and i’ve tried putting lotion on after the alcohol so that I don’t over dry it and cause it to produce more oils. For my face I’ve tried different washes, use toner every day, and proper facial moisturizer. I’ve even gone without makeup for a few days and it doesn’t help. It’s driving me nuts!!! Does anybody have any suggestions? I live alone so there isn’t really anyone around to be applying creams to my back

Well first off you have nothing to be embarrassed about, this is a very common thing, i am in my third year of med school and actually have coverd alot of studies in dermatology, and im even thinking of going in that field, so i when saw your question,i thought i could help you out. It sounds to me like you are applying alot of topical solutions on your outer body parts, though there are products out there that work, almost 70% of acne on the body and face starts from within. As you get older your hormones change and your body starts producing more oils and other body chemicals that start causing blemishes, and even though you shower alot they will still overide due to the fact that it is constantly being released. But i highly recomend going to a dermatologist, they can give you non harmfull medications that can stop acne from within, before it hits your skins surface, and it is actually alot cheaper than people think, infact with all the money you spend on products, it about evens out! there are also other factors like stress and diet, but contrary to popular belief these play minor roles. body lotions vs body butter vs body cream?

so i got this marc jacobs daisy set and it included body lotion, body cream and body butter so i want to know what the REAL difference is. i already know that body lotion is the thinnest then comes body cream than body butter but does it matter when i apply it? and why does it matter how thick and thin they are??

well if you have really dry skin and are looking for a shine, body cream is the way to go. its more concentrated then the lotion and works faster.

if you have average skin and are looking for strong shine and strong scent, body lotion is the way to go. its less concentrated then body cream.

if you have normal/average skin, and just want a sheen, body butter is the way to go.

body butter doesn’t help if your skin is super dry. but if all you’re looking for is the scent, then use whatever.. body creme gives the strongest, followed by body lotion, then body butter.

the thickness and thinness only effect how good your skin absorbs it.
body creme is the thickest
followed by lotion
and though butter may seem thicker, thats only because of all the air in it, it’s the least thickest/concentrated.

but don’t mistake the body butter for the perfume butter/solid… totally different.. the perfume solid/butter is concentrated perfume. reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly strong.

waxing help?

okay so i just bought this sally hansen’s full body waxing kit. . it has this jar of wax that you heat up in the microwave, applicator sticks (like popsicle sticks), strips of paper to pull the wax off, and that little bottle of lotion that soothes your skin. so, it says i can use it on my armpits, but i’m having problems. it doesnt pull up all the hair in one try. what are some waxing tips with this kit? i’m also wanting to wax my arms (the hair is fairly short on my arms, ive been shaving them), bikini line, legs, and stomach, so how can i do this better?

hair has to be at least 1/4 inch or longer to grab longer but not oo long is good it is difficult to reach areas like an underarm if you choose to do so
do it in small strips.. apply the wax adhere the strip and smotth over with palm of hand on strip then you must yank it of very quickly oppsit e that arms or under arms hair growth and then obnly after all the hair is waxed off should you apply the lotion
the lotion can get in the way of waxing until you are done with that specific area… do not shave the hair on your arms youre going to have to let them grow out to a full capacity in order to wax them and also be sure you wear sunscreen after you wax as it does remove a lot of dead skin and can cause discoloration if out in the sun so wear sun screen wherever the area is you wax!!!

What is the best / strongest AHA or BHA body lotion out there?

I just started epilating (similar to waxing), and despite daily sponge exfoliation in the shower, + my AHA lotion, I’m getting a lot of ingrown hairs. The lotion I’ve BEEN using is Kiss My Face Olive & Aloe, Vanilla… which is “5% AHA.” But either that isn’t strong enough, or my year-old bottle has expired. (Is that possible??) I just bought Jergens Skin Smoothing lotion, which is supposedly also AHA, but they don’t put the percentage on the bottle… so I have no idea how strong it is. Any recommendations? I’m really hoping I can cut down on these ingrown hairs with a sponge + lotion!

But can they seriously deliver? If you’re skeptical about what you read or watch, you’re not alone. Not surprisingly, some doctors also question these claims and their promises.

The bottom line is that if these face care products could accomplish the same thing as a medical procedure, they would be medicinal drugs and not cosmetics – and this is what you have to keep in mind when deciding whether to try or buy.

Some of the best face care anti-aging technologies focus on compounds called pentapeptides – these are small groups of long-chain amino acids that function as chemical messengers throughout your body. Collagen Is Key

However collagen isn’t just for healing minor wounds. It also plays an essential role in how your skin ages. Collagen is the support structure that gives our skin a young firm appearance. When levels remain bountiful, our skin looks young and rejuvenated. When levels decrease, we lose that support and wrinkles and sagging begin to form.

While sagging-filling injections can temporarily fill in the gaps, some dermatologists believe that topically applying these peptides to the skin might well help it make more collagen by itself. This would have a “filling” effect similar to the wrinkle injections-but without the dreaded needle!

However, by then adding synthetic peptides with a fatty acid – essential at getting into the deeper layers of your skin – Olay developed the compound palmitoyl pentapeptide-3. DERMacai uses a similar complex known as palmitoyl Oligopeptide. Both companies claim this increases collagen production and firmer, more rejuvenated youthful looking skin within 2 to 8 weeks.

Director of Olay, Lauren Hodges states: “We don’t suggest it’s more effective than a medical procedure – we just claim that many women aren’t ready (for a needle) so until they are, or if they never are truly ready, we are giving them an alternative with a skin care anti-aging technology you can use at home”.

As Olay spokesman Dave Owen suggested also, when their ads include the question, “Is this better than Botox?” what they are really asking is: “Is this better than Botox for you?”

“We’re just stating that if you’re not completely ready for an injection, then the ingredients in these products can really make a difference in how your skin looks – and it’s obviously the end results that count”.

They argue though that these skin care products contain much more than just pentapeptides. They include herbs, minerals and vitamins with anti-aging potential. This is at least true in the case of DERMacai, which was originally developed not for anti-aging purposes, but for treatment of stretch marks – since stretch marks are the result of split and broken collagen fibers – their dermatologist researchers theorized that a peptide involved in collagen production and healing wounds might also help repair stretch-marked skin.

However it wasn’t long before women soon discovered on their own that this compound could actually help build collagen reserves anywhere they’re needed – including those tiny lines around your eyes, mouth and forehead.

And the rest is face care anti-aging history.
