Bonnie Kaplan, 53, had a few wrinkles and she believed Botox was the answer. Celebrities were endorsing it; many people were using it, and her friends were into it. What could possibly go wrong, she thought.

Without any hesitation, she visited a private clinic in Florida for some shots. Her dream was to be wrinkle-free. Little did she know her short visit would turn into a nightmare.

“The consequences were horrific. Thirty-six hours after the injections, Bonnie started to have problems breathing and was so weak she couldn’t walk,” reported Claire Coleman in the Daily Mail.

“She was rushed to the hospital and, as botulism set in, her nerves were damaged. Within hours, her whole body was paralyzed,” she continued.

Later, Kaplan would learn that the doctor she visited wasn’t a dermatologist but an osteopath. To make matters worse, he had injected her with a different form of the botulinum toxin – one that was intended for lab research rather than for use in humans.

“Doctors think she may have received up to 2,500 times the amount of toxin believed to be lethal if injected into the bloodstream,” Coleman wrote.

“After spending months in hospital, breathing with the help of a ventilator and unable to speak, Bonnie was eventually able to move around in a wheelchair, but doctors warned that the possibility of a full recovery was slim and could take years,” she added.

Kaplan wasnÂ’t the only person to take the deadly injections. Her husband Eric, 52, also received the shots. So did the doctor himself Bach McComb, 47, and his girlfriend Alma Hall, 34. All three were hospitalized.

Authorities are worried that what happened to Kaplan and the three others could also be happening to other people this very minute. As the popularity of Botox grows and treatments become more accessible, who is to stop any Tom, Dick or Harry from giving you a shot?

“It is not adequate to blindly stick a needle in someone’s face with scant knowledge of the potential risks that can include facial necrosis or disfigurement,” according to John Curran, chair of the British Association of Cosmetics Doctors (BACD).

But doctors said that is exactly whatÂ’s happening today due to lax regulations that can easily be bypassed by enterprising individuals out to make a fast buck at the expense of others. Coleman pointed out that while Botox is a prescription drug that can only be obtained by a doctor, anyone can inject it under the guidance of a doctor.

“If I decided to set up a salon offering Botox and filler shots to the public at £150 a time, all I need to do is find a doctor prepared to give or sell me Botox and show me how to inject it. Then, despite the fact I have absolutely no medical training, I would be acting within the law. But even if I couldn’t find an accommodating doctor, the widespread availability of Botox and other injectable products on the internet means that I could get my hands on pretty much anything I needed,” Coleman explained.

Until more stringent laws are passed and the industry learns to regulate itself, your best bet is to get Botox injections from a qualified doctor. DonÂ’t be ashamed to check your doctorÂ’s credentials since your face is on the line and things could get ugly if youÂ’re not careful.

Another alternative is to use a product that works like Botox minus the side effects. One popular brand is the Rejuvinol AM/PM Botox Alternative Age-Defying System. This anti-aging system has two powerful components: the Rejuvinol morning moisturizer that creates firmer, healthier, and younger-looking skin; and the Rejuvox night cream that reduces fine lines and wrinkles. night cream acne prone skin
How do I treat dry skin on my face?

Hello! I have gotten a very flaky face somehow, right on the sides of the bridge of my nose. I also have very acne-prone skin. The products I use (at night) are Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub, and then I use a proactive moisturizer, and then I use Clearasil Extra Strength Acne Vanishing Cream. Sometimes I use an extra moisturizer right after my shower. Are one or more of these product causing the problem? How do I get rid of the flakes? How do I prevent dry skin, without having an acne breakout?

wow your using alot of acne medication on your skin it just making your skin very dry flaky I suggest to try gentle face wash if you use alot harsh chemicals on your face your skin is going to age sooner than you though.
for acne I suggest to use aveeeno clear complexion foaming face wash only no other acne face wash .Then use neutrogena oil free moisturizer it good very light is water based so is good for your face. use aloe vera mask for your face use gel part spread on your face for about 20 minutes 3 times a week for a great pimple healer dry skin as well. use Alba botanica face cream Jasmine vitamin E cream very good nice smell you find at walmart stores .olive at night is also good for dry skin.

nivea night cream q10

“Antioxidants?” Oh no, here we go again! It seems like yesterday when I first heard that word uttered from my best friend’s mouth just as she was about to scoop a morsel of broccoli onto her fork. She said to me, “Did you know that this broccoli has antioxidants in it?” Well, ignorant that I was at the time not knowing how to respond to such a term associated with her poor innocent looking broccoli, I simply blurted out, “That’s terrible, let me get the waiter for you!”

Well over a decade has passed since that undignified moment with my friend (although we laugh about it today), and now in 2009 that very word seems to be on the conscious minds of anybody who is about to order their next meal and how their current food intake will effect their individual long-term health.

In this article I will share with you some antioxidants that are best for your face, not just what you put in your mouth. Moreover, because each antioxidant has different attributes, as some are more effective than others for certain types of skin conditions, I will help you find the right skincare products that will actually contain these antioxidants for five specific needs. Note, that these products can be tracked down at most large department stores, and if not, can easily be found online.

1) Sun Damage. If you are a sun-worshiper and are experiencing signs of premature aging or photo-damage, then SkinCeuticals’ Phloretin CF is probably going to be your best bet. Antioxidants phloretin and ferulic acid are both found in this product. Also, coffee-berry extract is another important antioxidant for preventing photo-aging.

2) Sensitive Skin & Acne. Both skin problems derive anti-inflammatory benefits from green tea, which can be found in Topix’s Replenix CF Serum, and once again coffee-berry extract, but this time in RevaleSkin night cream product.

3) Dryness & Roughness. If your skin is cracked, dry, or rough, typically through exposure to cold weather, I would suggest a highly emollient compound, such as, Kinerase Cream, which contains the antioxidant, kinetin. If you prefer vitamin E products, I would recommend The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil. Of special note, acai-berry extract is now being added to skin care products as a skin smoother.

4) Wrinkles. Antioxidants retinol, coenzyme Q10, idebenone, vitamins C and E, are being used for their smoothing properties. These substances either help promote collagen, such as Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream, or in the of case coenzyme Q10, help revitalize damaged skin cells, which can be found in Nivea Visage’s Q10 Plus Wrinkle Control Lotion SPF 15.

5) Dark Spots. Natural botanical skin lighteners include mulberry, licorice root, bear-berry, and vitamin C, which all by the way can be found in NeoCeuticals’ Skin Brightening Gel, or in SkinBright’s products, also an all natural product that will remove melasma, age spots and hyper-pigmentation.

night cream reviews
I want to start using Olay anti wrinkle night cream but there’s so many products I can’t decide?

I’m 26, have no wrinkles yet but feel its a good time to start. I pick Olay cos I looked at lots of reviews and the price seems reasonable for my budget, any suggestions what’s the best 1 for me?? Thanks

hi alot of department stores can give you samples, go in and have a chat to people at the different counters, before buying, you want to know if its suits your skin, eg. doesnt give you oily pimply skin, or on the other hand dry out your skin.

best night cream uk
what type of cream/serum would be the best to use on face. Fine lines visible in cheeks.what do I use to help.

I am in the uk, in my early forties and am getting fine lines in my cheeks. My skin looks very blotchy and a bit red at times and I am starting to get spots when it comes to the time of the month, or is it what I am using on my face. I have combination skin. I dont know what type of creams to use. I have used “protect and profect” for three months, and although it may have reduced my pores slightly, it has done nothing for my lines. I have used Loreal products, No7 uplifting day/night creams and am currently using Avon “ageless” but am coming out in spots. I am due a period though but it also could be down to the creams I am using. I am worried whether I am overloading my face and blocking my pores. I have used Olay in the past also. I dont know whether I should just stick with one product. If anyone knows of a cream that will help me or advise me how often and what to use, I would be grateful. What foundation looks natural on the skin without making your lines look worse?

You should try Arbonne’s it is new in the UK. I can provide you a free sample if you are interested. You are going to love the results. It is botanical based, vegan, no mineral oil and prevents age spots and discoloration. I have been using this products for 5 years and my skin has never looked better. that is the reason why I turned into the business 2 years ago.
