Choose Paraben Free Face Care

Taking care of your skin may be a priority to you, or just something you do in passing. When you pick out a face cleanser or cream, you may look for the right type of cream for your skin, or you may look for one that costs less. No matter how important you consider your skincare routine to be, there are some thing you should always consider.

Some of the things that are put into products with the promise of giving you younger looking, healthier skin are actually detrimental to having healthy skin. Cleansers that contain alcohols, for instance, don’t just remove excess oils. They remove too much oil and cause irritation. This can actually lead to breakouts instead of helping prevent them.

Many products have fragrance added to them. Chances are, no one has ever come up to you and smelled your face cream. You probably don’t smell it again after you apply it, either. There is simply no reason to add fragrance to a skincare product. Fragrances are the number one cause of allergic reactions that people have to skincare products.

Parabens are also added to many products unnecessarily. These are a group of chemical preservatives that are widely used in cosmetics, cleansers, and other skincare products. They are even added to some foods. Although they do occur naturally in some plant sources, parabens used in commercial products are produced synthetically in a lab.

Parabens are inexpensive and have never been proven to be harmful. However, their use in these products is coming into question. Parabens have been found in tumors in breast tissue. Since parabens are used in some deodorants, it is arguable that they could have found their way from the underarm to the breast tissue and have played a part in the development of the tumors.

There are other natural ingredients which may be used just as effectively as a preservative. Grape seed oil is one that is commonly used. It has never been scientifically proven as a preservative, but is has been used for years without complications having been reported. It is always better to play it safe and use paraben free face care for you skin. Since natural products don’t usually have parabens, alcohols, or fragrances, then these products should be at the top of your list.

Paraben free lotions and creams are also available for head to toe care. No matter where you use a product, you want to use one that has the healthiest ingredients for your skincare.

If cost is a big concern, don’t let it be. You certainly get what you pay for with skincare when you buy products off the shelf at the discount store. You don’t have to pay exorbitant prices for good products although you will probably have to pay a little more. It’s worth the investment in the long run since you only get one chance to take care of your skin.

Use Organic Skin Care In Pregnancy

No it’s not compulsory, but the cosmetics and hair care products that you normally use can affect your baby. For example, would you believe that in your normal beauty and hair regimes you could be applying more than 200 different chemicals to your body?

So ‘going organic’ may make a great deal of sense when you consider that anything you put on your skin will be absorbed into your body, and what is in your body can also pass into your growing baby.

There is no evidence that using organic beauty products can do something for your skin that regular products can’t. Although if you can avoid using the petroleum derivatives and waxes along with the synthetic fillers found in conventional skin care then it may prevent the possibility of some of these chemical nasties finding their way to your baby’s skin and causing any skin sensitivities.

To claim a product is organic, it must be made with at least 95% organically grown produce, while to claim that it has been made with organic ingredients, it must contain over 70% organically grown produce. But where does organic end and natural ingredients start?

For The Soil Association, organic ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides and according to their strict guidelines, while a natural ingredient is one from a natural source and is either untreated or treated and processed with other natural ingredients.

Clear so far? Unfortunately, sometimes natural ingredients are treated with synthetic substances to create the final ingredient – for example foaming agents used in shampoo (cocamidopropyl betaine is a common one) and as a result, The Soil Association allows certain semi-synthetic ingredients to be used in organic beauty products. You will also need to be very clear on the terminology that is used, ‘organic’ refers to the method of farming, but ‘organic skincare’ doesn’t mean that no harmful chemicals have been added to the product during the production process.

Some organic products use safe, paraben free, semi-synthetic preservative systems, commonly phenoxyethanol, which is a Soil Association approved for use in organic beauty products, or benzyl alcohol, approved by Ecocert, and often used by French producers of organic and natural products.

If you are not sure what the ingredients listing means then ask the question. Any reputable retailer or manufacturer will be happy to answer your questions clearly and directly. So the maxim is, “If in doubt, find out”

woo skincare and cosmetics

Itâ??s a girlâ??s world- Men reflect a changing social attitude toward feminine looks

With more and more Hong Kong men reflecting a social change towards being more and more metrosexual, the cosmetic industry in Hong Kong is on a surge. With the “Boys over Flowers†show, it figures that girlie looks are in!

Long hair, a clean shave and a flawless complexion. Well, that’s the description of the quintessential Hong Kong male. Your hopes of becoming a TV star could might as well be plummeting down if you are the guy with the rugged looks.

Yes, it’s true, Hong Kong men are more conscious of their looks than earlier and they prefer to woo the girls with their clean looks. It is a proven fact as seen in surveys, that Hong Kong men are now spending as much on cosmetics and clothes as their counterparts from Venus.

There has been no stopping despite the disarray in global finances. According to research director Susanna Lam Fung-san, Men spend an average of HK$1,661 a month on perfumes, cosmetics and skincare products and an average of HK$1,005 per month on clothes and accessorizing.

The reason for this intrepid spending on personal items could be due to the fact that Hongkongers still have a average income higher than their Asian neighbors. The surprising fact is even the girls seem to be liking this new avatar. The ratings of the weekly TV drama “Boys over Flowers†are proof enough for it made women go gaga over the four kids having “pretty boy†looks.

This could prove as an opportunity which could prove to be a golden egg to the cosmetic industry.More men are getting behind the counter to help men be more comfortable in asking for their  specific cosmetics and also helping women buy them for their boyfriends / husbands.

With this phenomenon on the roll, the market share of the male cosmetic industry is not just showing an ascent in the growth pattern but it’s got spill over affects in the plastic surgery industry as well.

Why Should You go Natural?

To appreciate why natural skincare products are so beneficial, it helps to highlight why it’s better to steer clear of other chemical products on the skincare market. A big reason to do so is the presence of parabens in a lot of cosmetics. These are chemicals used as preservatives primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties, and there are suggestions that these can be linked with breast cancer. Parabens are commonly used in cosmetics such as shampoos, moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, spray tan and toothpaste.

Dr Philippa Darbre and colleagues at the University of Reading carried out tests on samples of 20 different human breast tumours their findings recorded traces of parabens in every sample, suggesting the chemicals had seeped into the tissue after being applied to the skin. Results have shown that parabens have weak estrogenic activity. Some estrogens are known to drive the growth of tumors; the study has raised some concern about the use of butylparaben, and to a lesser extent other parabens as well.

“This is the first study to show their (parabens) accumulation in human tissues … It demonstrates that if people are exposed to these chemicals, then the chemicals will accumulate in their bodies. Their detection in human breast tumours is of concern since parabens have been shown to be able to mimic the action of the female hormone estrogen. Estrogen can drive the growth of human breast tumours. It would therefore seem especially prudent to consider whether parabens should continue to be used in such a wide range of cosmetics applied to the breast area including deodorants.” Dr Philippa Darbre.

Chris Flower, director general of the UK’s Cosmetic Toiletry & Perfumery Association, welcomed the study, “It is welcome additional information and we will want to examine the findings in detail”.

So it is understandable people have become concerned about the use of parabens in their cosmetics, even if their link with estrogen and breast cancer remains uncertain many wish to play it safe and gain all the other benefits of completely natural products. Investigations into the subject have not proved conclusive; whilst they do not confirm a direct link between parabens and cancer, there is not definite evidence to state they are harmless.

The European Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) has reviewed the safety of parabens twice since Jan 2005. Both reviews stated that the available data on parabens does not enable a decisive response to the question of whether propyl, butyl and isobutyl paraben can be safely used in cosmetic products at individual concentrations up to 0.4%, (the allowed limit in the EU).

Whilst the paraben situation is not one to strike terror into the hearts of avid anti-perspirant users just yet, we should appreciate what nature has to offer us, why turn to dubious chemicals for a beauty fix when there are alternative products readily available? Scin boutique stocks several ranges which are completely paraben-free; ‘Apivita’ express face masks for skin, body and hair, ‘Laidbare’ natural beauty range, ‘Purepotions’, ‘Taer’, ‘Jo Woods Organic’, ‘Pai’ handmade natural British skincare and most of the ‘Earth mama, angel baby’ pregnancy and baby products, can all be used without worry!

Got Sensitive Skin?

I’m sometimes amused by women who tell me that they have  “sensitive” skin—like it’s a badge of honor, proof-positive of their femininity. The classic symptoms:

  • diffuse redness, irritation, especially in the T-zone
  • tingling, tightening, dryness and flakiness
  • reaction or discomfort to procedures or products—shaving, waxing, cosmetics
  • blotchiness, swelling, edema, which sometimes can advance to rosacea

In fact, it’s a sign of weakness, and it’s sometimes caused by the use—or overuse of the wrong products, particularly moisturizers. It seems antithetical—a moisturizer was probably the first product that you used on your skin—and the one you trusted and used most frequently— but it could also be the one that harms and ages your skin the most—either accelerating skin aging, or inducing skin sensitivity.

With young and healthy skin, the cells in the dermis collect water from the food we eat and water we drink, and deliver that water to the surface of the skin. It’s a natural part of cellular nourishment and repair. That’s why it’s so important that we keep skin cells active and functioning normally. But when you apply a moisturizer to hydrate and plump the skin, the skin cells in the epidermis send a message to the cells in the dermis: slow down, we’re fat and happy up here. That causes the cells in the dermis to become lazy, go dormant, and the skin becomes drier, thinner and less elastic. At that point, the skin is compromised, and begins to lose its ability to function as a natural and protective barrier. That induces sensitivity and leads to redness, irritation, wrinkling and accelerated aging.

Crazy as it seems, moisturizers—which supposedly are calming and soothing—are frequently just the opposite. If you’re going to use a moisturizer, use one that suppresses irritation, that calms the skin, that contains some retinol to awaken dormant cells. And don’t ever use a moisturizer to the exclusion of products that activate and stimulate your skin.

Kick the moisturizer habit. Make sure that your skin is rejuvenating and repairing itself. It’s one of the best strategies for well-nourished, healthy skin.

PS For those people who are “hooked on moisturizers”, separately we can talk about the best times and places to apply it.

love the planet skincare

Lancome – The Leading Cosmetics Empire

Talk about beauty and cosmetics and for sure, experts would raise the name of the world’s biggest beauty and cosmetics firm, L’Oreal Group. From the world’s beauty and fashion capital, Paris in France, comes the company that focuses on bringing to consumers the best brands for skin and hair care. When it comes to perfumes, the company surely would not be left behind. Its Lancome Paris unit manufactures Lancome perfumes that are truly among the most patronized and loved all around the world.

Imitation, as they say, is the greatest form of compliment. One proof that Lancome perfumes are well received and are loved the world over is the rampant selling of counterfeit and imitated forms of the items.

Anti-counterfeit regulators and experts from all around the planet identify Lancome perfumes as one of the top perfume brands that are imitated, counterfeited and sold to the mass market in important cities in Asia and Europe. Though the illegal transactions are harming the business, Lancome says the imitations affirm the brand’s reliability and popularity.

The initial Lancome perfumes were introduced to the market in 1935. It was in Brussels where the first five of the fragrances were launched. Those fragrances were Tropiques, Bocages, Kypre, Tendre Nuit and Conquete. L’Oreal acknowledges the fact that the perfumes were what made Lancome what it is today—a famous brand not just of perfumes but also of skincare and cosmetics products. Thus, Lancome perfumes are important products and have always been considered assets of Lancome Paris.

Through the years, Lancome perfumes were able to withstand the tests of time. After being known as a premium brand of fragrances, Lancome have been among the top choices for scents by celebrities and the opulent. Numerous fragrance lines and names have been launched and introduced by Lancome.

Among them is Magie Noire, which is considered one of the most celebrated and popular women’s perfumes of all times. Unfortunately, because selling the fragrances through conventional means became challenging to the margins, Lancome decided to start selling them through online shopping sites. The initiative only made the line among the most sought-after and most priced catches.

Back to the problem of imitated and fake Lancome perfumes, the company is taking measures to crack down on those businesses that propagate and distribute such items. What is more interesting is the fact that fake Lancome perfumes are among the most purchased. To Lancome, that means people from all across the globe love the brand.

Because of high costs of buying the items, some consumers resort to buying the imitation Lancome perfumes because doing so brings them the opportunity to enjoy and wear the premium fragrance.

Lancome is indeed one of the most patronized perfumes that are out in the market. As fashionistas keep on buying and using Lancome cosmetics and skincare items, they surely are also out to put on their Lancome perfumes. Truly, Lancome perfumes can be classified as among the top prides of Paris. There is no doubt about it.

good skincare routine
What’s your skincare routine/your favorite skincare products?

So, what’s your favorites and least favorites?

In the shower, I grab a facecloth, put a little bit of foaming cleanser on (I think it’s Aveeno?) and scrub my face to death to remove the dry skin. Sometimes i’ll even get an exfoliating sea sponge and exfoliate further. When I get out the shower, I apply a toner (Caryl Baker). Before I put my makeup on, I apply a little bit of moisturizer (Olay original formula). I don’t usually take my makeup off before bed unless I’m wearing a lot of eye makeup.

Hey, it works.

skincare today
Rose water, good for the skin?

I met a 59 year old lady today at work and she looked amazing. I was surprised she said 59 and I would have said 40, she looked great for a 40 year old even and had the most amazing skin. Now obviously genetics has a big part to play by this, aswell as her lifestyle but she swore by using rose water as a part of her daily skincare. She said she has always used it and would reccomend it to anyone.

Does anyone use rose water as a part of their skincare routine?

Yes it does work, it’s all natural and most of the girls in my family use it, it really does give off a radiant glow, provided that you’re using PURE rose water, and not the “fake” one with alot of additives. If you go to a pakistani/indian store, you’ll usually find some really good ones that are pure and natural, i use one called arq-e-gulab, and i stock up on it when i go to pakistan (its only about 5p there!) but look out because many department stores will try and sell it to you (probably with additives) for a big price.

So in answer to your question, I use it as part of my daily routine, sometimes on its own and sometimes with other products, and it definetly works. It compliments the other skincare products I use too, whilst being great on its own.

Can i use sunscreen as a moisturizer?

I have a sunscreen Elta md skincare 45 and it’s got zinc-oxide 9%.
i bought it when i had my light chemical peel along with a moisturizer

can i use the sunscreen as a moisturizer because i heard zinc is supposed to help acne reduces the inflammation and irritation of the pimple area and control oil. is 9% strong enough to do so?

http://www.beautyriche.com/detail.aspx?ID=1007

the sunscreen says its oil-free and non-comedogenic and won’t clog pores.

No, you would want to use a seperate moisturizer. There are a TON of moisturizers with an SPF in it. Try Dermolica. They have an Age Smart line that has an SPF of 30 in it. it is wonderful!

I need a smart cosmetic line for my studio any ideas?

I have a skincare studio and im lacking a really smart cosmetic line. I would like to offer my clients something different. Not mary kay/avon.

I think Mary Kay/Avon would be your best bet. If you offer another cosmetic line – you won’t be making much of a profit. I mean if you’re selling like say MAC at a higher price – your customers would rather go to another counter and get the makeup cheaper. You might be able to resale the makeup at a lower price than what you bought it and make a profit simply because people are willing to buy it. Or you could see if you can buy the makeup in bulk and sell it.

I have naturally oily skin, why when I exfoliate really good my skin gets oilier?

I bought this clarisonic pro skincare brush that’s gotten a ton of good reviews, and it’s made my skin really smooth but a lot oilier (& making me break out), and that always happens when I exfoliate my skin.
I’m hispanic

It might have something to do with what kind of moisturizer you use…if you use any at all. A heavy or thick moisturizer would be counter-productive to the exfoliating.

And if you don’t use moisturizer at all, than your skin might be making a lot more oil to keep your skin from drying out….?

Should I start using the Cinique’s 3-Step Skincare System?

I’m a teenager who is starting to get acne on my T-zone area. I heard about the Clinique 3-step skincare system on YouTube and heard great reviews. The thing is that I’m not too sure whether I should start or not, because I’m using Kiehl’s products. (No rude comments please.)
One of my hesitations is that I know that Cliniques’ products have a high amount of alchohol and are not very good for the skin.

I’ve been using it for 6 months now and it’s worked perfectly for me. I used to have some redness on my T-zone and pimples on my forehead area, but after using it most of it has disappeared! I’d definitely recommend it, although different people react differently to different products so it may or may not work for you. (:

my skincare routine
Skincare routine recommendations?

I breakout frequently and I think part of the problem is that I don’t have a skincare routine. I just wash my face and thats it. What is a good skincare routine/line/brand that won’t dry out my skin and will prevent breakouts. Preferably something cheap but if its that good I’ll consider buying it. I have very oily/sensitive skin.

And not proactiv because that stuff dried and irritated and disturbed my skin soo much.

You need to find a few good skin care products. I suggest going to a facialist and asking. They will find you products that fit your skin type. I use the soy products from Aveeno.

I use a cleanser, and slather on a moisturizer. In the day, use one with spf (15 or higher) to protect your skin. Many people don’t realize how important it is wearing a moisturizer that has spf, all year round. At night, use a repairing lotion. If you have acne-prone skin, find a cleanser that has salicylic acid.

A personal tip I will give you that I use all the time is: apply a hot, wet towel on you face and leave it on for about 20 seconds. Repeat this step a few times, and apply a good exfoliating cleanser immediatley. This will open your pores and allow the cleanser to get in deep. It will make your skin glow.

A few good lines I used (I have combination skin), is Md Formmulations (The teen kit). Many other products from Md Formulations are great. It’s my favorite skin care line.

What is the best face cleanser line?

I am trying to find out what the best face line there is. I am curious about Murad, DDF, md skincare, and Perricone. I break out a lot and never have a day of clear skin. My face is dull and does not look healthy. I just want a good cleanser and good moisturizer for my skin type. I see all these great brands when I look at skincare products at Sephora and they promise so much, I just want to get the right one.

A good cleanser is st. ives apricot scrub, along with cetaphil.
The scrub cleans your pores and gets the dead skin and dirt off very well.
Cetaphil is good for the acne treatment.
A good moisturizer is GNC A, E and D vitamin cream.
